Holy Frit Beads

Handmade Glass Beads by Kelly Hurley

My World

I am a stay-at-home mom.  I have been married for 20 years! (Yikes...I feel old now!)  I have a boy and a girl.   They keep me pretty busy!

My son is 11 years old.  He has such a wonderful sense of humor, kind hearted, and generous.  Michael has a wonderful sense of adventure.  He loves trying new foods.  I could almost classify it as a hobby.  His father and him share a passion for chocolate!  I think it's it's own food group at our house.  He loves football, photography, and martial arts (Black Belt).  He is soooo smart it's scary!  He is in 5th grade and has pretty much passed me up!  Sooo...apparently I am not smarter than a fifth grader .

My son struggles with stuttering.  He is a severe stutterer, and has been dealing with that since he was 4 years old.  (He spoke perfectly before then).  He is an amazing kid and I am very proud to be his mom!

My daughter is 8 years old.  Just had a birthday!  She is quite the girly girl!  She likes pink, Barbies, nail polish, and all things girl related!  She is a Girl Scout and loves Gymnastics!  She also has a wonderful sense of humor!  For being such a girly girl, nothing gets her laughing more than body noises.  Yep...you heard me right...body noises.  Any noise will do!  Apparently, armpit farts are great fun!  Who knew!

Alicia is such a happy little girl.  She is always bubbly and bright.  She lights up the room when she walks in! Every morning she hits the floor with a smile on her face (must be nice...I am not a morning person).

My husband is my high school sweetheart! (Awww...)  I had a crush on him in third grade. He is my best friend.  I love his sense of adventure!  We have gone places and done things I would have never imagined.  He has never let an obstacle stop him.  He just figures out a way to go around it.  He loves motorcycles, even did some racing.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. during the first Gulf War.  The Marine Corps. was and still is a very important part of his life.  He is a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and Special Olympics.

I volunteer at my children's school.  I serve on our Middle school PTO Board.  Never thought I would be doing that!  I am also a Co-Leader for my daughter's Girl Scout troop.   My hobbies are obviously lampwork, gardening, photography, and playing as much as possible!

Update of My World!

In August, I recently celebrated my 40th birthday!  Yikes!!!!!  Not happy with my current physical condition, I decided that I was going to run in a marathon.  Keep in mind that I am not a runner.  In fact, I was unable to run more that 1 minute at a time.

I know that many of you are thinking that I  am crazy and have probably been breathing to many fumes from lampworking.  And while that may be true,  I will be running in the Detroit Marathon this Sunday (October 19th).

My friend and I have been "training" since August 18th.  We now are able to run for about 8 minutes, then we walk for 2 minutes and then run again.  We are soooo excited about this Sunday!

After the Marathon!

That was amazing! I can't wait to do it again!  We finished in 3 hours and 3

minutes.  We ran the half marathon (13.2 miles).  Here are some pictures of

us at the finish.

You may have all noticed that I have not been making as many beads as usual.  I recently purchased a BIG kiln.  I am trying to master glass fusing/slumping.  This will allow me to also make custom plates, bowls, vases, door knobs, and of course - beads!  The more I play the more I realize that the possibilities are endless!  I eventually would like to incorporate both lampwork and fusing together.

I also have been busy with alot of custom work with the beads.  I will be back to posting beads very soon.  I recently purchased some really neat reactive glass.  I love how the beads are turning out!

I have been working quit a bit with silver and reactive glasses lately.  I think that is my new passion.  Love the beads!  I am still trying to figure out the big kiln.  I think I am going to have to break down and take some classes.

Carrie and I have signed up for two more marathons.  We will be running the Martian Marathon in Dearborn, MI in April.  We also signed up for the Flying Pig in Cinncinati.  That is the first weekend in May!

Yea!  The kids are out of school!!!!!  I don't know if I have ever been more ready for summer vacation!  It has been a very stressful Spring.

Now that school is out, I am hoping to step up bead production.  I have been focused mostly on custom orders.  I would like to get back to listing multiple weekly sets.

I just purchased some new bead presses.  They have been fun to play with.  Can't wait to see what I can do with the new shapes.

Today was the kids first day back to school!  Summer went by way to fast!!!!  It actually was a rather hard summer!  My Dad was sick most of the summer.  We spent a lot of time at the hospital and then home to help him recover.  He is doing much better!!!!

The kids and I also had our tonsils out in August.  Wow, that was painful!  Happy they are out, though!!!  Kinda want to celebrate now!!!!

I have been really busy with special orders.  I love that, but it does not leave much time to make new sets.  Now that the kids are back to school.  I plan to set aside bead time each day to fix that!!!!
